Why All The Anger At Michael Vick?

Next Monday NFL superstar Michael Vick will plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges, putting the Atlanta Falcons quarterback's career in question and leaving him subject to a possible prison term. Vick will most certainly face some sort of prison time for his crime.

Not that I think dogfighting is OK - I most certainly don't - but I can't help but wonder why Vick has become public enemy number one? The protester's are out in full force wanting Vick's head on a platter.

Isn't Vick merely exercising his right not to raise those dogs? They were inconvenient to his lifestyle right now - perhaps he wasn't ready to raise dogs right now at this time in his life? Raising dogs takes time and money and if a person isn't ready for that, then they shouldn't have to go through with raising them. They were, after all, his dogs - so it was his choice...right?

For those who are unable recognize my sarcasm font, these are the exact same reasons used to execute human babies in this country every single day - the deplorable practice known as abortion.

This entire saga is a clear picture of how twisted and morally corrupt we are as a nation. For some of the very same people who are protesting Vick's mistreatment of dogs - are the very same people who are screaming to keep legal the vicious dismemberment of human babies in the womb.

Now a man will spend time in jail for killing some dogs - which is just.

But meanwhile, men are living free and luxurious lifestyles they've earned from the babies they've killed - that is unjust.

  1. It is kind of amazing to me. I mean, I don't condone cruelty to animals of any sort, but people value dogs more than actual people it seems.

I just heard that the pastor's wife from Tennessee who killed her husband will be getting out of jail soon. There's probably a good chance Vick will serve more jail time than her.

  2. i've wanted to write about this for weeks now...but have been too lazy/distracted/busy.

i'm hardly an expert, and i'm a little embarrassed that i even know some of these sports references (it may expose my misplaced priorities at times):

--kobe bryant was involved in gross sexual misconduct with a woman, leading to criminal charges, yet he played through the entire year.

--ray lewis was somehow involved in another man's death, yet he continued to play and has become the face of a franchise.

--michael vick is involved in dog fighting and people are ready to run him up the flag pole.

i do think the "sport" is disgusting, sadistic and evil. it's also clearly illegal. there is no excuse for what he has done, and he should face penalty.

however, as you have pointed out with abortion and people's perspective on it, the same can be shown within the sports world. we greatly devalue human life.

    days of noah anyone?

  3. I'm both shocked and saddened that whales and spotted owls appear to be more important to our society than our unborn - We are definitely storing up the judgment.

  5. animal chaplain -

I can't decide whether to delete or repost your comment under the 'humor' label.

You say no one you know is suggesting animals are more important that people - with respect - you must not know very many people.

  6. Animals and humans alike are sentient beings. We all feel pain.

you'll notice, to be an interfaith "ministry" there can be no reference to the Scriptures, therefore, they can boast that all major religions advocate treating animals well without having to give a moral reason (like the Bible says we are to subdue/care for them) so as not to offend another religion.

so, the reason to treat man and animal well is that we both feel pain.

so if a person or animal has faulty nociceptors, are they then worthy of torture?

  7. Danny -

LOL...apparently then, if one is 'numbed up' first - they'd be eligible for torture and pain??

  9. Oh my! Ok, first of all I must say that being mean to animals is an absolute "No No". Anyone who would do so truly lacks substance and character. That being said, what in the world is an animal chaplain?!? I read the explanation, but seriously...
Animals are wonderful and God gave them to us for many reasons. But they are not in danger of spending eternity in hell. I would so rather spend my time, effort and energy in human beings! Who, after all were created in the very image of God. Humans who's souls are in danger of spending an eternity seperated from God. Humans who are hurting and hungry. Humans who don't give a second thought at the barbaric practice of killing babies. Humans who do value animals OVER other human beings. Humans who truly need Jesus. I say we have a "Lost Souls" day, which to me would be FAR MORE IMPORTANT than "World Animal Day!" I think we should march a huge group of HUMANS into a cemetary singing praises to the Lord Jesus Christ to show that death is real and the reality of eternity exists and not all roads lead to heaven so let's make sure we are doing our jobs as Christians to bring sound biblical truth to Humans so that they won't have to be eternally seperated from the One True God. And to all the animal chaplains out there...the plus side is this...true Christains who have the love of Jesus don't hurt animals. Ok...there's my two cents...lol.
