Tonight on American Idol the contestants closed with the powerful worship song "Shout to the Lord". They did (not as well as Darlene Zschech I might add), but noticeably absent from the first line of the song was the name of Jesus - whom the entire song is about. Instead of singing "My Jesus..." it was "My shepherd". How weak.
It's unbelievable that the name of Jesus is treated no differently than profanity to bleeped or censored on network TV. We have certainly digressed from our Founding Father's who founded this nation on the God of the Bible. The name of Jesus apparently causes some folks in high up places some fear and angst.
Some day my friends...
"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Philippians 2:10-11.
The problem is America has it's idols and they are the stupid people on 'American Idol' who they worship now a days - not the Lord God Almighty. It's a grammar thing, people get the little "g" and the BIG "G" confused. I'm appauled at the title of the show let alone what they do on it....
ReplyDeletean idolatrous nation we certainly are...
ReplyDeleteThe Isrealites called, the want their idols back!!
ReplyDeleteWhen has Jesus not been censored? Let's go back in time... I can see the religious zealots sitting in the control booth in the temple with their fingers poised over the bleep button when Jesus steps up to the podium to speak. Here is the orders from the management, "If he even starts to mention the fact that he is the Son of God, push that button!!!"
ReplyDeleteLet's look at a video that was posted in a past blog entry from Pastor Eric. I am referring to the video of the girl that was giving a graduation speech in which she was giving glory to God when her microphone was muted.
It is sad that we have fallen into such a state of complacency here in the United States. We put people on a pedestal and "worship" them. We tune in each week and root for our favorite "idol". What would it be like if we "tuned" in to GBC (God's Broadcasting Company) on a weekly basis and followed His news and His "People of the Week" as closely as we do American Idol?
I admit, I have a few idols in my life. First of all is Jesus Christ. I desire to be like Him. Secondly, the apostle Paul. Dude had some great advice. Next, Solomon. That man had some great advice (check Proverbs).
I know why Jesus gets censored. He is controversial. Most people can not hack controversy, especially if it does not coincide with one's personal views. Another reason that Jesus gets censored here in America is because we as a nation have drifted so far away from Him. We are not shown the Truth of God outside of the church. Too many "Christians" today are closet Christians. The Christians today live the life only when it suits them. They hide their sins behind the cloak of "privacy". In the "privacy" of their homes, they are abusive to others, alcoholics, molestors, porn surfers, etc. They live one way outside the walls of the church and they live another way in front of the congregation. I've been there and done that and have found out just how bad that mars the cause of Christ. You just got to love hypocrasy.
